Companies push renewable self-consumption schemes

Companies in Mendoza, La Rioja and Córdoba are incorporating distributed generation schemes based on renewable sources with the goal of producing electricity for their own consumption.

The regime allows business users to become generators and connect to the electric grid under a scheme designed for self-consumption. The ability to reduce dependence on conventional supply stands out as one of the main incentives driving its adoption.

The implementation of these projects is linked to the pursuit of greater energy predictability and to the use of renewable resources available in each province. Within this framework, different companies are evaluating alternatives to cover part of their demand through their own facilities.

Distributed generation also allows production to be brought closer to the point of consumption, with the potential to reduce losses associated with electricity transmission. Its development depends on connection conditions and the regulations in force in each jurisdiction.
