Vaca Muerta Recovered Activity in August as Energy Exports Continue Rising

Vaca Muerta resumed its activity pace during August, following the decline registered in July. The shale formation reached 2,262 fracture stages in the month, compared to 2,010 recorded previously.

The volume represented a monthly improvement of 12.53%, according to the survey by Luciano Fucello, president of the Fundación Contactos Energéticos. With this result, the accumulated activity in the formation has already surpassed the total recorded during 2024.

The recovery in fracturing activity occurred in a context of record crude oil production. Unconventional crude continues to increase its share within Argentine extraction and sustains the growth of hydrocarbon activity.

Meanwhile, energy exports gained relevance in the trade balance. Vaca Muerta's performance is linked to greater crude availability for external markets and the progress of investments aimed at expanding transport and evacuation capacity.

Productive expansion also drives an infrastructure race to support the formation's growth, both in systems associated with production and in the works necessary to strengthen foreign sales.
