Tucumán hosts sugar-alcohol sector to discuss the future of bioethanol

The city of Tucumán hosted the II Bioethanol Summit, an event organized by the Institute for the Promotion of Sugar and Alcohol of Tucumán (Ipaat) to discuss the development of this biofuel in Argentina.

The agenda included public policy, technological innovation, investments and sustainable mobility alternatives. Provincial and national authorities, businesspeople from the sugar-alcohol sector, and specialists from Argentina and other countries took part.

During the event, technical presentations were given on industry progress and bioethanol's potential to contribute to a cleaner energy mix with greater federal integration.

The gathering also fostered dialogue between Tucumán, Salta and Jujuy, and highlighted the need to strengthen regional cooperation. Among those attending was Jujuy Governor Carlos Sadir.

One of the main topics discussed was the bill to reform the Biofuels Law currently under consideration in the Senate. The initiative proposes raising the proportion of bioethanol blended into fuels from 12% to 15%, with the aim of encouraging investment and expanding the industry.

The summit was held at the Catalinas hotel and underscored the importance of bioethanol for the sugar-alcohol industry and for sustainable mobility strategies. Participants also stressed the need for predictable rules and legal certainty for biofuel producers.
