SLB Withdraws from Hydrocarbon Projects in Falkland Islands and Surrounding Waters

SLB, one of the world's leading oilfield services companies, confirmed its withdrawal from projects linked to hydrocarbon exploration and production in the Falkland Islands and adjacent maritime areas. The company also ruled out participating in future tenders involving providing services to hydrocarbon initiatives in that region.

The decision by the firm, formerly known as Schlumberger, was communicated officially and is linked to Decree 868/26, recently published by the National Executive Branch. This legal instrument prompted SLB's withdrawal from operations in the disputed zone.

SLB's announcement adds to a series of moves that have marked Argentine hydrocarbon policy regarding the Falkland Islands. The company, specialized in drilling services, data acquisition, and software solutions for the oil industry, has chosen not to invest resources in a zone that remains the subject of international controversy.
