Scania strengthens its operations in San Juan with a focus on mining

Scania Argentina inaugurated the expansion of its plant located in Pocito, San Juan, after allocating US$2.3 million to the project. The initiative was carried out to mark ten years of the company's operations in the province and aims to bring its services closer to the areas where its customers operate.

The San Juan subsidiary went from having five employees to surpassing 40 workers. The company also expects that the infrastructure could be expanded again if growth in regional activity generates higher demand.

Mining was identified by the company as a priority sector for its expansion. Within this framework, Scania established a partnership with the Vicuña project to set up an assistance workshop in the operations area, where trucks of the brand are already in service. The company also has accumulated service experience at the Veladero deposit.

The firm noted that its modular construction system allows vehicles to be adapted to the demands of large-scale mining and to the needs of the oil and gas industry, including the development of Vaca Muerta.

On the technology front, Scania highlighted the incorporation of new engines, with fuel consumption reductions of more than 10% compared to previous generations. The strategy also includes the advancement of compressed natural gas as a transition alternative toward transportation with lower environmental impact.
