San Juan adds new mining logistics park

San Juan inaugurated on Monday the THOR Logistics Park and Operations Center, the new base that the mining company set up in the department along National Route 150, located on the site of the former military manufacturing facilities. The commitment is to have 35% of personnel be local residents.

A 300-hectare site with industrial history

The new headquarters occupies a 300-hectare site that belonged to the former Jáchal Explosives Factory (former Fabricaciones Militares), a space that returns to industrial and logistics activity after years of inactivity. Equipment maintenance, storage and distribution of supplies for San Juan's leading mining projects will operate there, along with the company's drilling, blasting and explosives marketing services, as the firm has more than 20 years of experience in the province.

Local employment and a new ANFO plant on the way

During the ceremony, officials highlighted THOR's decision to establish operations in Jáchal and announced another key project: the future ANFO plant, which the company will develop together with Orica Argentina and which is expected to begin production in December. According to the mayor, both projects represent a leap forward for the local productive matrix, generating employment, training and new opportunities for workers in Jáchal.

What the contract signed with the municipality requires

The agreement between the Municipality of Jáchal and THOR establishes that the site may only be used for mining activities and sets a minimum threshold of 35% of personnel residing in Jáchal. It also creates a Monitoring Committee to oversee environmental, technical and labor compliance, while the company has committed to prioritizing local labor and implementing a training plan for workers from the area.
