Rockhopper and Navitas sustain Sea Lion development despite Milei's announced measures

Rockhopper Exploration and Navitas Petroleum, operators of the Sea Lion oil project in the Falkland Islands, assured that they will continue with the development of the deposit despite the measures announced by President Javier Milei.

The companies issued a joint statement after the Argentine Government announced sanctions for companies participating in the exploitation of natural resources on the islands without Argentina's authorization. According to their statement, they do not foresee a significant impact of these decisions on the activities planned for the project.

Rockhopper and Navitas noted that their permits remain in force. They also emphasized that they operate with licenses issued by the Falkland Islands government and have the backing of the United Kingdom.

At the same time, the companies maintained that the announcements made from Buenos Aires would not alter the Sea Lion schedule. The initiative is led by Rockhopper, a British-based company, and Navitas Petroleum, a company with Israeli capital.

During a national broadcast, Milei announced that the Government will seek to bar from operating in Argentine territory companies directly or indirectly linked to projects developed on the islands without Argentine authorization. He also announced a decree to accelerate the application of sanctions and the submission to Congress of a bill to increase penalties.
