Rio Tinto Strengthens Regional Supplier Ecosystem and Launches New Registration Portal

Rio Tinto unveiled its new Supplier Portal for Argentina. The platform will allow companies already working with the company to update their information and enable potential suppliers to register their data and present their capabilities.
The launch represents a new step in Rio Tinto's strategy to strengthen the regional ecosystem of companies supporting the growth of its operations and projects in the NOA region. This network already mobilizes a significant scale of purchases and contracts, and leverages capabilities from Catamarca, Jujuy and Salta across the value chain.

In Rio Tinto's operations in Argentina analyzed for 2025/2026, purchase orders were issued for USD 696.2 million. 79% of the value corresponded to domestic suppliers and 50% to companies in the NOA region. Within that same universe, 93% of the 1,805 suppliers are located in Argentina and 41% in the NOA region.
The projects included in the RIGI also reflect this integration with the national supply chain. Since the start of Rincón, purchase orders issued reached USD 1.419 billion; USD 941 million (66%) were awarded to Argentine suppliers. In Fénix 1B, for the reported period 4Q 2025/2026, USD 310.7 million was awarded to Argentine suppliers; Catamarca concentrated USD 153.6 million, nearly half of the total amount awarded.
"These figures show that the growth of our operations and projects relies on a broad network of Argentine and regional suppliers. The Portal will allow us to organize this relationship, better understand available capabilities and offer a clearer channel to companies in Catamarca, Jujuy, Salta and throughout the country. We seek to build long-term relationships with competitive suppliers capable of supporting our growth with high standards of safety, quality and compliance," said Ignacio Costa, General Manager of Rio Tinto in Argentina.

Rio Tinto Fénix, one of the company's flagship projects.
The Portal is complemented by provincial supplier development programs, aimed at strengthening the capabilities of SMEs and community enterprises in safety, quality, compliance, management and technical knowledge.
