Neuquén to Host Experts for Methane Emissions Discussion in Vaca Muerta

Neuquén will host, on September 15-16, a conference dedicated to the detection, measurement, verification and reduction of methane emissions associated with hydrocarbon operations in Vaca Muerta.

The event, called Vaca Muerta Methane Near Zero, will bring together national and international specialists, operating companies, public agencies, universities, consultancies and technology providers. The goal will be to analyze how to translate emissions data into concrete mitigation measures.

The agenda will include the use of satellites, sensors and other monitoring tools to identify methane sources with greater precision. Discussions will also cover the mechanisms needed to quantify emissions, validate information, compare results and define operational interventions.

Regulation will play a central role in the conference, focusing on reports that companies must submit, control mechanisms and conditions for verifying compliance with committed actions. The event is organized by the Neuquén Government, through its Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources and Climate Change departments.

Participants include Carlos de Regules Ruíz-Funes, senior advisor to the Climate and Clean Air Coalition; Erin Tullos from The University of Texas at Austin; James Turitto and Felipe Cardoso Saldaña from Clean Air Task Force; and representatives from UNEP's International Methane Emissions Observatory and the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization.

The first day will take place at the Domuyo Convention Center, where operators will present decarbonization experiences and applied technologies. On September 16, at the Technology Park, there will be technical training for regulators, public officials, professionals and environmental specialists.
