Neuquén presented its strategy to Spain for exporting lower-methane gas

The governor of Neuquén, Rolando Figueroa, presented before representatives of the Confederación Española de Organizaciones Empresariales (CEOE) the provincial strategy to develop Vaca Muerta and expand the export possibilities of its natural gas production.

The presentation focused on growth in energy activity, the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the need to reduce methane emissions. For the province, this aspect will be critical to meet the environmental requirements of international markets, especially European ones.

Neuquén has begun implementing systems for measuring, reporting and verifying emissions, and in September received the first mandatory reports from the sector. Additionally, it works with international bodies to improve the detection of losses and strengthen technical capabilities related to environmental performance of hydrocarbon operations.

During the meeting, Figueroa also stated that Neuquén gas could access destinations such as Japan and South Korea if it manages to meet buyers' environmental requirements. Reducing emissions intensity is presented by the province as a possible competitive advantage for LNG produced from Vaca Muerta resources.

The meeting also served to publicize investment opportunities in energy, infrastructure and tourism. CEOE expressed interest in learning about concrete projects and in using its business platforms to link Neuquén initiatives with Spanish companies.

The governor linked that search for capital to provincial financial restructuring, debt reduction and improved financing conditions. The official objective is to support Vaca Muerta's expansion with infrastructure projects and extend its effects to other activities in the Neuquén economy.
