Mega to expand its processing capacity in Neuquén with a US$365.4 million investment

The national government approved the incorporation of the Mega Expansion project into the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI). The initiative involves an investment of US$365.4 million to expand natural gas liquids (NGL) processing capacity in Neuquén.

The project will add 1,500 tonnes per day, bringing the potential capacity of the MEGA Industrial Complex from the current 5,500 tonnes to approximately 7,000 tonnes per day. Commercial start-up is expected for February 2029.

The plan includes new facilities at the Loma La Lata Separation Plant, in addition to work on the pipeline connecting that site with Bahía Blanca and on the fractionation plant located in Buenos Aires province.

The expansion comes amid growing gas production in the Neuquina Basin and expanding investments related to hydrocarbon processing, transportation and fractionation.

Neuquén Governor Rolando Figueroa highlighted the role of the RIGI as a tool for attracting capital and stated that “without legal certainty and fiscal stability, there are no investments.” He also said that “the challenge is to seize this window of opportunity before the global energy landscape changes and, at the same time, ensure that each new investment generates more activity and jobs for the people of Neuquén.”

The project aims to support the growth of Vaca Muerta production with greater industrial infrastructure and logistics capacity, an objective the province links to generating activity and associated services within the hydrocarbon supply chain.
