MARA advanced with environmental presentation to begin its production phase

MARA submitted the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the production phase to Catamarca's Mining Ministry. The project combines the Agua Rica deposit with the facilities and associated infrastructure of Bajo la Alumbrera, currently operating under Glencore.

The document incorporates technical and environmental information developed from over 20 years of studies and operational experience accumulated in the area. It also analyzes environmental conditions, potential socioeconomic and environmental effects, and mitigation measures planned for operations and closure.

According to the company, the design includes prevention actions, resource management and continuous monitoring, as well as technical alternatives aimed at limiting the environmental footprint of the development.

The estimated investment for MARA amounts to US$4.5 billion, according to the application for adherence to the Large Investment Incentive Regime submitted in August 2025. For construction, the project contemplates over 2,000 jobs and prioritizes the participation of workers and suppliers from Catamarca.

Bajo la Alumbrera's infrastructure is a central component of the production scheme. Glencore announced in December 2025 the restart of its operations, with the goal of beginning production during the second half of 2027.

The EIR delivery constitutes a new step in the evaluation procedure required for MARA's development, in a context of expanding international copper demand and progress of other copper projects in Argentina.
