Fuel sales fell 6.4% year-on-year in July

Fuel sales fell 6.4% year-on-year in July, totaling 1,368,722 cubic meters. The result marked the sixth consecutive decline compared to the same month of the previous year, in a market closely tied to the level of economic activity.

The decline affected both gasoline and diesel. Gasoline sales volume dropped 7.4%, with decreases of 7.8% in regular-grade and 6.4% in premium-grade. For diesel, the drop was 5.1%, driven mainly by a 7% decline in the regular product, while premium diesel fell 1.9%.

Between January and July, the market accumulated sales of 9.58 million cubic meters, the lowest level for that period since 2021. Compared with the first seven months of 2025, the decline was 2.1%, with drops of 2.3% in diesel and 1.9% in gasoline.

The leading companies also posted negative results. YPF, which holds 55.7% of the market, reduced its dispatches by 5.2% year-on-year, its sharpest decline since February 2025. Shell saw a 7% drop, while Axion registered a 3.8% decrease.

The contraction extended across most of the country's jurisdictions. Only La Pampa, Neuquén and Santiago del Estero posted increases, of 0.7%, 0.5% and 0.2%, respectively. The other 21 provinces recorded declines, and eight registered double-digit drops.

The steepest declines were seen in Tucumán, with 22.4%; Jujuy, with 16.4%; and Salta, with 15.9%.
