Mining Takes Center Stage at Argentina Week in Paris
President Javier Milei will lead Argentina Week in Paris, a series of meetings with national and provincial authorities, business executives, and representatives from French and European companies, aimed at presenting the country's investment opportunities. Mining will hold a central place in the program.
The president will travel Tuesday evening. The official agenda begins Wednesday with a welcome cocktail dinner at the Argentine Embassy, featuring ministers, governors, and business leaders. The central day will be Thursday at the Château de la Muette, headquarters of the OECD, under the theme "Forces Driving Argentina's Growth: Milestones and Investment Opportunities."
There will be an opening session on macroeconomic transformation and sectoral panels, including one on mining, alongside those on energy, agriculture, retail, health, and biotechnology. Speakers include Gary Nagle, CEO of Glencore, and Horacio MarĂn, CEO of YPF. That day Milei will also meet with Emmanuel Macron at the ElysĂ©e Palace.
Friday, focus on critical minerals
Friday's agenda will be dedicated to strategic sectors. In the morning, a meeting on energy, critical minerals, and the nuclear sector will take place alongside the International Energy Agency (IEA). It will be a high-level meeting with the agency's top officials and experts, who will present an overview of global energy markets.
From the national government, Energy and Mining Secretary Daniel González; Nuclear Affairs Secretary Federico Ramos Nápoli; and Energy Secretary MarĂa Tettamanti will participate.
Provincial participation will be extensive. Governors Alfredo Cornejo (Mendoza), RaĂşl Jalil (Catamarca), Marcelo Orrego (San Juan), Carlos Sadir (Jujuy), and Gustavo Sáenz (Salta) will attend, joined by Rolando Figueroa (NeuquĂ©n), Ignacio Torres (Chubut), Juan Pablo Valdez (Corrientes), Claudio Vidal (Santa Cruz), Alberto Weretilneck (RĂo Negro), and Leandro Zdero (Chaco).
From the business sector will be Jerome Precresse of Rio Tinto; Olivier Hahn of Total; and Alejandro and Marcos Bulgheroni of Pan American Energy.
According to the program, investment opportunities will be analyzed based on the new regulatory framework in the mining, nuclear, and oil and gas sectors, as well as ongoing projects that multiply resources and generate employment.
Mercosur-EU and legal certainty
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) will hold a roundtable on opportunities arising from the Mercosur-European Union Agreement and the importance of legal certainty for trade and investment. Infrastructure, global value chains, international arbitration, and institutional conditions for attracting long-term investments will also be addressed—sensitive topics for large-scale mining projects.
The agenda also includes participation by Pouyanné (TotalEnergies), Grisi (Santander), and Margarita Louis-Dreyfus (Louis Dreyfus Company), and recognition of the president by the Paris Economic Forum.
