Jujuy to Host October Regional Summit on Lithium's Future

Jujuy province will host the 15th edition of Lithium in South America on October 7 and 8, an international conference bringing together over 1,500 participants from the mineral value chain. The agenda will focus on market shifts and the conditions necessary to advance new development projects.

The 2026 landscape is marked by new production capacity coming online, a recovery in lithium prices, and reassessment of investment decisions. These factors are coupled with growth in energy storage solutions, which expands demand prospects, while major economies compete for supply chain dominance.

The conference will convene producers, project developers, analysts, government officials, investors, suppliers, and specialists from Argentina and other countries. The event rotates among Salta, Jujuy, and Catamarca, combining sector exhibitions with business meetings.

One key focus will be the future of Argentina's lithium project portfolio. Outcomes will depend on variables such as capital availability, costs, infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and price expectations. The impact of the Large Investment Incentive Scheme and its capacity to drive new investments will also be analyzed.

According to data released for the conference, Argentina has more than 55 lithium projects, with 20 initiatives in production or advanced stages. Identified resources total 216 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent, while proven reserves in salt flats reach 23 million tonnes.

National production grew 67% during 2025, according to the survey cited in the event presentation. Regionally, South America accounts for approximately 30% of global lithium production.
