GyP Prepares Second Round Focused on Vaca Muerta Gas

Gas y Petróleo del Neuquén (GyP) is working on the second tender under the Exploratory Plan Neuquén, which will be directed toward blocks located in the gas window of Vaca Muerta. The launch is projected for late November 2026 and bid submission for April 2027.

The initiative will advance while the provincial company completes the evaluation of Round 1/2026. This process included 15 areas, received 20 proposals from ten bidders, and recorded competition in seven blocks, while seven other areas attracted no interest.

In the first tender, GyP is analyzing corporate, technical, and economic background included in Envelope A. This stage will continue through the second week of September, with the possibility of requesting clarifications or formal corrections.

The opening of Envelope B, which contains the economic proposals from qualified companies, is scheduled for the third week of September. Evaluation would take place the following week, with the eventual award subject to consideration by GyP's Board of Directors.

Criteria for defining the bids will include the provincial oil company's participation, increased royalties, committed activity levels, and increased access bonus. The schedule also contemplates contract signing in October and subsequent processing with the Neuquén Ministry of Energy.

The second round seeks to expand gas exploration in Vaca Muerta areas that still require greater information and work to reduce geological risk. Should awards be finalized, temporary joint ventures would have an initial exploration period of four years from approval of the corresponding decrees.
