Genneia plans country's largest solar park in Mendoza

Genneia announced the development of Mendoza Sur, a 404 MW solar park to be located in San Rafael, Mendoza. With 919,072 bifacial photovoltaic panels, the project would become the largest in capacity among currently operating solar projects in Argentina.

The initiative is in the final stage of environmental evaluation and is located near Villa 25 de Mayo, along Provincial Route 150. The choice of area is linked to the region's solar radiation levels.

The design includes 16,412 single-axis tracking structures, a new transformer station and a high-voltage line to connect the plant to the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI). The bifacial modules will capture radiation on both sides, including light reflected from the ground.

Construction would take about 24 months between civil works and electromechanical assembly. The company expects Mendoza Sur to begin commercial operations in 2029.

The generated power could be allocated to large users and private companies through contracts under the Term Market for Renewable Electric Energy (MATER), in addition to other supply mechanisms. The project aims to support rising electricity demand in Cuyo, driven by industrial and mining activity, including copper mining.

The new capacity also seeks to expand the share of renewable sources in the energy mix and offer lower-environmental-impact electricity for industries and exporters. In this context, the availability of large-scale solar energy emerges as a factor for future mining investments in the region.
