Flavia Royón took over the presidency of the Senate's Mining, Energy and Fuels Committee

Flavia Royón took over the presidency of the Mining, Energy and Fuels Committee of the National Senate, after formalizing her appointment during a joint session with the Budget and Finance Committee, held in the Salón Illia.

The national senator from Salta said she will seek to promote a federal perspective on natural resources and argued that energy policies must take into account the needs of the provinces. She also thanked the support of Flavio Fama, from Catamarca, and Pablo Cervi, from Neuquén.

Among the first issues addressed by the committee was the regulation of biofuels. The debate was adjourned until the following Wednesday, when lawmakers plan to continue reviewing the bills and move forward on drafting a report.

The legislative body's agenda will also include matters related to hydrocarbons, mining, renewable energy, energy infrastructure and investments. Royón stated that predictability, legal security and clear rules are necessary to turn resources into productive projects.

The lawmaker also highlighted Argentina's potential in unconventional oil and gas, lithium and critical minerals linked to the energy transition. In that context, she focused on generating investment, jobs, suppliers and infrastructure so that development reaches regional economies.

Royón has previous experience in the areas she will now lead in the Senate. She served as the Nation's Secretary of Energy between August 2022 and December 2023, during Alberto Fernández's administration, and previously headed the Secretariat of Mining. She also held positions related to production and planning in the Salta provincial government.
