Norte Grande Region Prepares Summit to Advance Differential Electricity Rate

Norte Grande governors are organizing a new summit in Buenos Aires to advance the implementation of the agreement reached with the national Government for a differential electricity rate for warm and very warm zones.

The agreement seeks to address a long-standing demand from the 10 provinces that make up the regional bloc, belonging to the NOA and NEA regions. Tucumán Governor Osvaldo Jaldo confirmed he will take part in the upcoming meetings and stated that the goal is to formalize the subsidies for the northern part of the province.

Jaldo also plans to meet with Cabinet Chief Diego Santilli to continue negotiations. According to him, the agreement will be signed by the 10 jurisdictions that pushed for the request.

The agreement calls for raising, during the period between November and April, the subsidized block for very warm zones from 300 to 550 kilowatt-hours. In warm zones, the limit will rise from 150 to 300 kilowatt-hours.

The decision was announced last week following a meeting between governors, Santilli and Economy Minister Luis Caputo at the Palacio de Hacienda. Previously, eight governors had taken part in a meeting in Posadas.

The negotiation is taking place as the national Government reviews the cold zone regime currently in force in Patagonia and other areas, with possible effects on subsidies in municipalities in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Mendoza and San Luis. At the same time, the ruling party is seeking to rebuild ties with the governors following recent political and legislative disputes.
