Government Authorizes Electricity Rate Hike in AMBA and Natural Gas Increase Nationwide

The Government of Javier Milei authorized new adjustments to energy tariffs that will take effect in September. The increase will apply to electricity users in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) and natural gas consumers across the country.

On average, electricity bills will rise 1.75% in the AMBA, while natural gas bills will increase 1.40% nationwide. The hikes remain below July inflation, which stood at 2.1%, according to the latest official data available.

The measure was formalized through various resolutions from the National Energy Regulatory Board (ENReGE), published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette. The documents are signed by the agency's vice president, Vicente Serra, and board members Marcelo Nachón, Griselda Lambertini, and Héctor Falzone.

The National Energy Secretariat emphasized that the new average rates for September remain below July's inflation rate. The adjustment occurs amid a periodic review of rate schedules.

For September, private estimates compiled by the Central Bank through the Market Expectations Survey (REM) project inflation near 1.8%.
