Government Establishes Special Regime for Large Project Energy

The Energy Secretariat established a specific regime for new large electricity demands, identified as X-DEM. The measure applies, among other cases, to data centers, mining projects and infrastructure initiatives linked to Vaca Muerta.

The scheme requires these undertakings to incorporate new electricity supply to cover at least 80% of their consumption. The obligation aims to ensure that demand growth associated with major developments has additional support within the system.

For data centers, the requirement can reach up to 115% of their maximum capacity. In this way, the regime contemplates a specific requirement for activities with high consumption levels and continuous supply needs.

Projects that fail to incorporate the necessary supply will face surcharges for electricity obtained through the electricity market. The final cost will therefore depend on compliance with the conditions established for new X-DEM demands.
