Government Raises Subsidized Electric Consumption Limit to 200 kWh

The National Government raised the monthly electric consumption limit eligible for subsidy from 150 to 200 kWh under September's rate framework. The modification nullifies the reduction originally planned for this period.

The decision was adopted in response to rising international energy costs, aimed at moderating the impact on residential bills. For electricity, the measure applies to Edenor and Edesur users in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), where the Nation has regulatory jurisdiction.

The scheme also includes an extraordinary 25% subsidy for electricity, which adds to the base 50% discount, bringing the total benefit to 75%. For natural gas service, the extraordinary subsidy will be 24.5%, with a cumulative reduction of 74.5%.

According to official directives, the average increase in bills during September will be 1.75% for electricity and 1.40% for natural gas. Both percentages fall below the 2.1% inflation recorded in July, the latest figure released by INDEC.

For natural gas, the application of these measures will have nationwide scope due to federal regulation. The Government stated that the scheme seeks to assist the most vulnerable users while continuing with tariff normalization and meeting fiscal targets.
