Argentine Scientists Advance Cyanide-Free Alternative for Metal Coating

An Argentine scientific team is working on developing a cyanide-free alternative for electroplating, a process used by various industries to apply coatings on metal parts.

The research is being conducted at the Research and Development Center for Paint and Coating Technology (CIDEPINT), which is under CONICET, the National University of La Plata (UNLP) and the Scientific Research Commission of the Province of Buenos Aires (CICPBA).

The new procedure uses glutamate and has already shown favorable results during initial trials. The goal is to advance toward a safer methodology with potential for industrial application.

The main remaining challenge is related to coating adhesion on stainless steel. The team is seeking to resolve this aspect to consolidate the process application across different metal components.
