China Strengthens its Presence in Salta's Mining and Trade Sector

The China Day Salta 2026 brought together authorities, diplomatic representatives, business leaders and academic experts at the Catholic University of Salta to analyze new opportunities for cooperation, investment and trade between the province and the Asian country.

The agenda included discussions on mining, energy transition, agribusiness, regional SMEs and the Capricornio Bioceanic Corridor. The meeting took place amid growing Chinese participation in Salta's productive and export structure.

Mining constitutes one of the main pillars of that relationship. Ganfeng Lithium participates in the Mariana project and also intervenes in PPG alongside Lithium Argentina. Additionally, Tibet Summit is linked to Diablillos through PLASA, while China Union Holdings is planning its entry into the Arizaro salt flat through an operation valued at US$175 million.

As part of that expansion, Ganfeng Lithium opened a customs facility to conduct direct exports from its processing plant located in the General Güemes Industrial Park. The measure adds a logistics tool for lithium-related operations.

During the event, the importance of National Route 51 and the Sico Pass for connecting Salta with Pacific ports and Asian markets was also highlighted. This infrastructure is part of a broader strategy linked to the Capricornio Bioceanic Corridor and the reduction of logistics distances between the NOA, Chile and Asia.

Bilateral trade extends beyond mining. Among Salta products destined for China are tobacco, citrus fruits, sodium chloride and lithium chloride, wines, legumes and lithium carbonate, according to the agenda presented by the provincial government.
