Brazil Prepares First Natural Gas Auction for Industry, Eyes Vaca Muerta

Brazil is moving forward with organizing its first natural gas auction aimed at supplying the industrial sector. The process will be led by Pré-Sal Petróleo (PPSA), the state company that manages production-sharing contracts linked to pre-salt deposits.

The initiative seeks to expand supply alternatives for Brazil's industrial sector through a state-driven commercialization mechanism. The available information does not yet specify the volume to be offered, the auction timeline, or the final conditions of the bidding process.

In parallel, Brazil is evaluating the possibility of sourcing from external suppliers to complement its gas supply. Within that analysis, Vaca Muerta, Argentina's leading unconventional hydrocarbon development, appears as a potential source of supply.

Any eventual relationship with the Neuquén formation will depend on export availability, transportation infrastructure, and commercial terms to be established between both countries. To date, no concrete agreements or contracts related to the future auction have been reported.
