Argentina Projects to Multiply Lithium Production by 2035

Argentina is seeking to expand its weight in the global lithium market through a combination of geological resources, productive growth, and a portfolio of projects at different stages. The country holds approximately 21% of global lithium resources and around 12% of reserves, with major developments located in the salt flats of Jujuy, Salta, and Catamarca.
Activity is concentrated in the so-called Lithium Triangle, alongside Bolivia and Chile, a region that accounts for around 45% of global resources. In Argentina, among the projects and operations mentioned are Olaroz and Cauchari-Olaroz, in Jujuy; Pozuelos-Pastos Grandes, Centenario-Ratones, Sal de Oro, and Salar del Rincón, in Salta; and Fénix, Kachi, and Tres Quebradas, in Catamarca.
During 2025, national production reached 120,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent, representing a year-on-year increase of 62%. Growth was driven by both new operations and the expansion and optimization of existing facilities.
Fénix produced over 31,000 tonnes of LCE in Catamarca, a 29% increase from the previous year, while Olaroz and Cauchari-Olaroz each exceeded 34,000 tonnes. The first operation recorded capacity utilization above 85% and the second, above 80%.
The sector portfolio includes seven operating projects, 16 advanced initiatives, and over 40 exploration ventures. With new plants and expansions, Argentine production could reach 573,000 tonnes of LCE by 2035, nearly five times the level reported for 2025.
Development is also supported by private investment incentives, including the Mining Investment Law 24.196 and the Large Investment Incentive Regime, created by Law 27.742. Additionally, companies are incorporating technologies such as direct lithium extraction to improve process efficiency.
